Breakfast of Champions
As I mentioned at the end of my last post, my favorite novel of all time is Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.. This is the novel that inspired me to get back into reading after many years, and also made me a big fan of Vonnegut. This novel is about an unsuccessful science fiction writer named Kilgore Trout and a wealthy car dealer by the name of Dwayne Hoover. Dwayne Hoover finds the works of Trout and begins to believe they are real. The events of the book are what comes of this. Vonnegut uses an incredibly sarcastic prose to tackle serious issues in America that are still issues today 48 years after the original publishing of the book. My favorite part about the novel is that Vonnegut gives constant reminders to not take him too seriously, often interrupting the novel to add doodles that he made that are sometimes related to what is going on. The book is not very long, but had me immediately hooked and I finished it in 3 nights. I could not recommend this book more.
Keep going. KV JR is one of the best and one of the first novelists who made me believe I could love Literature. I'm so glad you love this important, amazing book!
